How To Make Better Web Content - Part 2
Make every page a funnel.
What do we mean by this?
Every page should communicate information clearly see how to make better web content - part 1
Start communicating broadly, and become more refined as you move down the page
Every page should make it clear what you would like the user to do next.
Think about the order in which your information is presented to your reader. How would you like to understand something new?
More than likely you would a broad introduction to the concept first, then you would break the concept down into smaller chunks, then dive into each chunk.
So for example, if I told you the following:
SEO is a term that stands for search engine optimization, meaning techniques used to increase rankings and visibility on search engines. Proper on-page SEO is built into each page of your website, from the ground up. This involves targeting one, maybe two applicable keywords per page, and making all content on that page applicable to that keyword(s). We make sure every web page on your new website targets the highest-volume, lowest-competition keyword we discover, and place all keywords appropriately on each web page and in all meta data. If you want to learn more, read about our on-page SEO here.”
Versus if I told you:
We use on-page SEO to get our customers new websites on the first page of Google.
Which one draws you in? The latter one.
And why is that? Well it communicates a simple message that is easy to understand.
So instead of having our large block of text above, we could simply have that same text displayed in the following manner:
We use on-page SEO to get our customers new websites on the first page of Google
We do it by:
Targeting one, maybe two applicable keywords per page
Making sure we target the highest-volume, lowest-competition keywords available
Placing these keywords appropriately on each web page and in all meta data
Each one of these bullet points could be further broken down to provide more description about our methods as well.
Finally, we would include a call to action so a person could read more or get in contact with us about what they just read, on-page SEO.
Essentially the same message can present in multiple different ways. We recommend presenting your information in a way that both helps funnel knowledge into people’s heads and funnels customers to take a set of actions.
Don’t forget that a website is a simple art of communicating. It is much better and easier to talk to someone in person, but we don’t have that luxury over the web. So if you are introducing a concept to a potential customer, draw their attention in, and make your concept understandable. We call this concept funneling.
